Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: Moscow Open Cup became a visiting card of Russian chess

On February 4, the traditional international Russian State Social University Chess Cup "Moscow Open- 2018" finished within the walls of RSSU. It was held for the 14th time, comprising eight tournaments. On the closing day of competition, the Stadion correspondent talked about the tournament with FIDE head Kirsan Ilyumzhinov:

"I remember I visited RSSU during the very first tournament. Then I did not even think that it would become traditional. I am grateful to university authorities for the fact that people have kept this tradition.

I understand that they were helped both by Moscow Chess Federation and Moscow Government. I visit many countries and I would like to note that the RSSU Moscow Open Chess Cup has become a visiting card of Russian chess.
Literally, everyone can prove themselves in this tournament. There are also grandmasters, some of whom started their careers at this tournament. The same Sergei Karyakin played here and received his higher education at RSSU. The tournament is an important one, and many people want to come here to play."
