Kadyrov supports Ilyumzhinov in the Russian Chess Federation presidential election

On January 17, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov put forward his candidacy for the post of President of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF). Election of the Russian Chess Federation President will be held on February 3 this year. Chess federations of Kalmykia, Ingushetia, Astrakhan and Vladimir regions, as well as other regions, have already announced their intention to support Ilyumzhinov's candidacy.

It became known about the intention of Chechnya's leader Ramzan Kadyrov to support FIDE President in the Russian Chess Federation presidential election. As follows from the letter of Chechen Chess Federation President, Mayor of Grozny Muslim Khuchiev, which was sent yesterday to Russian Chess Federation Executive Director Mark Glukhovsky (a copy is available with Nezavisimaya Gazeta), candidacies for the post of RCF President were considered at the general meeting of the republican federation on January 14. The final decision was in favour of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

"Such a decision of the republican chess federation could only be made with the consent of head of Chechnya," close to Khuchiev source explained to Nezavisimaya Gazeta. Earlier, the decision to support Ilyumzhinov in the elections was made by the Association of Chess Federations of the North Caucasian Federal District, which President is Ramzan Kadyrov.
