Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev resigns

Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev resigned on 19 March. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaker of the upper house of parliament, will take over as Kazakhstan’s acting president.

The sixth FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, in a telephone conversation with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, said the following:

“The contribution of a great man and statesman, Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev, to the revival and development of chess in Kazakhstan is invaluable! I am sure that chess in Kazakhstan has a dynamic present and a bright future!

I congratulate you, my comrade, a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, a great chess lover with your appointment as Acting President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I want to sincerely wish you, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich, success in your high post!

I wish you successful work, achievement of all your goals, good health, happiness and well-being!”
