Ilyumzhinov congratulates Buddhists on Shakyamuni’s birthday

Kalmykia celebrates the birthday of Buddha Shakyamuni on 17 June. This is one of the main holidays in the Buddhist calendar, which falls on the 15th lunar day of the holy month Yps cap.

Buddhists will celebrate the birth (year 563 BC) of Shakyamuni Buddha, the enlightenment and attainment parinirvana. As is known, all these events occurred on the same day, with a difference between the first and the last one of 80 years. Solemn worship ceremonies will be held in all the churches of the republic as well as charity events, concerts and festive treats for all believers and laity.

In Elista, the main events will be held in the central Khurul “The Golden Abode of the Buddha Shakyamuni” (“Burkhn Bagshin Altn Sum”). It is the largest temple in Europe with the largest statue of Buddha and the only sculptural composition in the world of 17 pandit scholars of the ancient Indian university Nalanda. Built in 2005 with the blessing of His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama on the personal funds of the First President of Kalmykia, the 6th President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and on people's donations, it became the hallmark of Elista.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulated the Buddhists and his fellow citizens on this great holiday. His greeting reads as follows:
“I congratulate fellow countrymen and all Buddhists on the great holiday, the birthday of Buddha Shakyamuni! Buddha Shakyamuni came to our world to help people find happiness. Today, on the birthday of the great Teacher, we rejoice in his miraculous deeds, try to follow his example and perform virtuous deeds.
With all my heart, I wish you health, well-being, success and good luck! May the life of Shakyamuni Buddha serve as an example for us. May love and compassion for all living beings always be in our hearts.
Please let me wish you happiness, peace and prosperity! ”
