Elista hosts the international exhibition of Oirat and Mongolian scripts

On 5 September, the opening of the international exhibition of the Oirat and Mongolian Zayasn bichig scripts dedicated to the 420th anniversary of the outstanding educator, creator of the writing Tod bichig script Ogtorguyn Dalai Zaya Pandita and the Day of Kalmyk National Tod bichig script was held in the Central Khurul of Kalmykia The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni.

 

The Central Khurul the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni together with the Writing and Calligraphy ‘Zayasn Bichig’ Centre with the support of the International Association of Mongolian Calligraphy ‘Bichig Soyol’ initiate the second international exhibition of Tod bichig scripts and the old Mongolian writing Hudum Mongol bichig. It is dedicated to the 420th anniversary of the outstanding educator, religious leader, creator of the Oirat Tod Bichig script Ogtorguyn Dalai Zaya-Pandita, and Day of Kalmyk National Tod bichig script that falls on 5 September this year.

Recall that the famous The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni Khurul was built in just nine months. This temple is known as the largest in Europe, with the largest Buddha statue (9 meters’ high) and the world's only sculptural composition of 17 pandit scholars of the ancient Indian University of Nalanda.
Built in 2005 with the blessing of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the personal expense of the first President of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and donations from Kalmykia residents, the temple became the hallmark of the capital of this steppe region - Elista.
