Ilyumzhinov: "Rapid chess can be included into the Winter Olympics programme"

Currently there are negotiations on the inclusion of rapid chess into the Winter Olympics programme. This was stated by the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

"I am grateful to the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach for the first joint meeting of the IOC and FIDE held in the summer of the last year, which specifically addressed the possibility of chess to be considered as an Olympic sport", said Ilyumzhinov.

"The rapid chess fights could take place between the day and evening programmes of the Games from 4 till 7 pm. Now we continue to work together with the IOC conducting discussions and meetings", concluded the head of FIDE.
