Let us recall that this week the Vice-President of the Chess Federation of Armenia Smbat Lputyan announced the refusal of the Armenian team to participate in the upcoming Baku Olympiad. Mr. Lputyan did not report the exact reason for the refusal.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov expressed his hope that the World Chess Olympiad organizers would still see the Armenian team at the competitions.
"I was in Armenia, where I met with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who heads the National Chess Federation, and the leader of the team Levon Aronian, however, so far their team refuses to go. However, their ticket is still valid", stressed the head of FIDE.
