More than forty years have passed since one of the most memorable contest happened in chess history - the world championship match between Anatoly Karpov and Viktor Korchnoi. Last year, an English director Alain Byron shot the documentary “Closing Gambit: 1978  Korchnoi vs. Karpov and the Kremlin”.

So far, the film has not been shown in the native country of its main characters. However, another surprise is being prepared for the Russian audience: a feature film will be made on the same topic.

Nikita Mikhalkov’s Three T Studio is about to make the film called World Champion directed by Alexey Sidorov. He is well-known by his film "T-34" that was a success in our country.

It is still unknown who will be invited to act as ‘two Ks’. Some consider Vladimir Mashkov and Konstantin Khabensky as possible actors. The Hollywood stars Mila Jovovich and Eva Green will possibly act as Korchnoi’s wife and his manager Petra Leeverik.
“There have been quite a few successful films about chess. We are sure to make it attractive and to open a new page in the history of chess cinema,” Mskagency cites Sidorov.
Pawn Sacrifice biographical drama film directed by an American filmmaker Edward Zwick was released in 2015. It depicts the struggle between two political ideologies when Boris Spassky and Bobby Fisher fought a match for the chess crown.
