Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: "Moscow Open has given a ticket to many famous international grandmasters"

On January 27, the main tournaments of the 14th International Festival of Chess 2018 Moscow Open started at the Russian State Social University. This year, the Russian State Social University happened to be the arena for the 2018 Moscow Open Chess Cup for 14th time.

FIDE President visited the opening and addressed the participants and guests. In particular, Ilyumzhinov said: "I would like to thank Natalia Borisovna Pochinok and the entire teaching staff of the RSSU for being not just one of the leading universities in our country and far beyond its borders but also for the fact that, recently, the RSSU became the centre of development and popularization of chess in the world.

Chess players, coaches and referees are trained at this university. Chess players came here for more than 10th time now. And it is the RSSU and this tournament that gave a ticket to many famous international grandmasters who are on top now. Our goal is to increase the number of chess players to one billion and I'm sure we will reach this number with the help of Natalia Borisovna and this beautiful university."
Recall that the tournament involved more than 2,000 people from 37 countries including Colombia, India, Singapore, Haiti, Nepal, Mexico USA, Peru, Chile and Ecuador. Moscow Open is a great chess forum. It will host master classes, seminars and courses. The festival will last until 5 February.
