FIDE President announces his intention to continue working

On 13 July, FIDE head Kirsan Ilyumzhinov called illegal the decision of the FIDE’s Ethics Commission to suspend him as its president.

"The decision of the FIDE Ethics Commission about my suspension is absolutely illegal. Three members of the commission took a political decision based on US sanctions against me. I was elected to the post of FIDE president by representatives of 110 states, and I cannot be suspended by three people, "Ilyumzhinov told Interfax on Friday.

"I intend to continue to fulfill my duties as FIDE President until October of this year," he said. According to Ilyumzhinov, he also intends to "apply to Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) and the international court of human rights."
According to the President of FIDE, "All this is happening because the vice-president of FIDE Georgios Makropoulos fears my authority in the chess world." "Makropoulos is trying to become FIDE President using any means," Ilyumzhinov concluded.
FIDE Presidential elections will be held in Batumi 3 October, 2018.
