Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulates Kalmykia people with the onset of the month Ur Sar

On 4 June, the first president of Kalmykia, the sixth president of FIDE, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, congratulated his fellow citizens on the coming Kalmyk holy month of Ur Sar. The greeting reads as follows:

“In this blessed month, any spiritual practice or good action brings karmic merit, which strength is one hundred thousand times more than in any other month of the year. Ur Sar is dedicated to the three great deeds of Shakyamuni Buddha: his birth, enlightenment, and departure to nirvana. Peace and prosperity to your home! May your merits for good deeds bring peace, harmony and well-being to you, your children and grandchildren!”

Editors’ note. Ur Sar is a month of celebrations in Kalmykia honouring the spiritual feats of the founder of the Buddhist religion Buddha Shakyamuni. It was this Buddhist lunar month that the Buddha chose for birth, enlightenment, and departure to parinirvana.

Ur Sar occupies a special place in the Kalmyk calendar. Kalmyks celebrate it for several centuries. Prayer ceremonies occupied a significant place in this sacred period. Images of deities are displayed, and khuruls are arranged in a special way.
In this month, ceremonies of the worship of the earth are held with offerings made to the patron deities of those places and special prayers are recited.
