Ilyumzhinov's visit to Kenya, day two

The first president of Kalmykia, the sixth president of FIDE, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov continues to meet with friends, Kenyan leaders and businessmen.

A bit of history. Diplomatic relations between the USSR and the Republic of Kenya were established on 14 December, 1963. Since then, political dialogue has been ongoing on a regular basis. In May 1997, in Moscow, the foreign ministers of Russia and Kenya signed the Protocol on Inter-MFA Consultations (the last round was held in Nairobi in November 2009).

In 2008 and 2011, Heads of the Kenyan Foreign Ministry paid working visits to Russia. In November 2010, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Lavrov paid a visit to Nairobi, where he had discussions with former President of Kenya M. Kibaki and George Saitoti. During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya was signed.

Economic and trade cooperation is also developing. Bilateral trade in 2014 amounted to about $ 400 million. Russia's exports was $ 220 million (cereals, ferrous metals, paper, vehicles, oil and oil products). Import amounted to $ 180 million (tea, coffee, flowers). Kenya continues to be Russia's second trading partner after South Africa.
Tourist services are developing. About 5-6 thousand Russian tourists visit Kenya annually. About 1,500 Kenyan citizens have been educated in our country. The Russian embassy assisted Russian universities in hosting the Olympics called “Time to study in Russia!” in Nairobi.
At the Sochi Russia-Africa Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope for further strengthening of the interaction between Russia and Kenya and stressed that he considers the development of trade and economic ties and the growth of trade turnover to be a priority.
Therefore, the purpose of Kirsan Nikolaevich’s trip to Kenya is to establish friendly and business contacts. Note that according to travel schedule of Ilyumzhinov, the next country of visit is Ethiopia.
