Further, FIDE leader spoke at the opening ceremony of the Asian Championship among schoolchildren participated by approximately 500 students from 18 countries. The first move of the tournament was made by the girls of up to 17 years category.
On July 10, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in Tehran, where he met with the President of the National Olympic Committee Kiomarsom Hashemi, Secretary General of the NOC Shahrohom Shahnaz and head of the Iranian Chess Federation Merhdadom Pahlevanzade.
Ilyumzhinov told in detail about the structure and activities of FIDE and the programme "Chess in Schools". In addition, the Iranian party was interested in the prospect of the inclusion of chess in the Olympic family.
