Ilyumzhinov: "Advances in science and technology have changed the world of chess"

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov declared that the chess world was changing; young chess players are actively using achievements of modern science and technology.

"Before the world champions such as Tigran Petrosian, Boris Spassky and Mikhail Botvinnik carried around a few suitcases of chess toolkits - notebooks and magazines, but today those are replaced by a single computer. Of course, the younger is a player the more quickly he adapts to new technology", - said the President of FIDE.

"Moreover, much more competitions are held in recent years. FIDE holds more than ten thousand tournaments a year to keep chess players in a good shape," stressed Ilyumzhinov.
