Anniversary evening at the Central House of Chess

On December 23, Moscow hosted the gala evening dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Central Chess House named after Botvinnik and completion of the reconstruction of the house building.

Welcoming remarks were made by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, a spokesman for Russian President Dmitry Peskov, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Russian Chess Federation Andrey Filatov, former Chess Champion Sergey Karjakin and the world oldest grandmaster Yuri Auerbach.

"The FIDE Presidential Board has declared 2017 the year of Yuri Averbakh. We will hold tournaments in his honour in many national federations. And today, we want to make a gift to the Russian Chess Federation: to pass a letter of the fifth Chess Champion Max Euwe to the Museum," said Ilyumzhinov.
"I think that CHC is the most beautiful chess club, where, probably, more than half of the world champions have played. I wish that this gorgeous building will host a world championship match to let the millions of chess fans watch the games. As FIDE President I wish the chess crown will return here and its owner would be a representative of the Russian and Moscow chess school," added the head of FIDE.
The ceremony was also attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhukov, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov, President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, businessman Gennady Timchenko, General Director of JSC "FosAgro" Andrey Guriev, president of the company "RATM Holding" Eduard Taran, film director Andrei Konchalovsky, the general producer of "Match TV" Tina Kandelaki, titled chess players and other guests. The event was moderated by the television journalist Vladimir Pozner.
