Ilyumzhinov closes the Women's World Championship in Tehran

On March 3, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in Tehran. Together with the arbiter of Women’s World Chess Championship Anastasia Sorokina and the President of the Chess Federation of Iran Merhdad Pahlevanzade he visited the tournament hall, where tie-break was played between the two finalists of the competition -- Ukrainian chess player Anna Muzychuk and Chinese Tan Zhongyi.

As a result, the title of the World Champion of the knock-out format won the representative of PRC.

Later, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Tan Zhongyi took part in a joint press conference. Having congratulated the winner, the head of FIDE proposed to the Mehrdad Pahlevanzade holding the women’s world championship match in Tehran. In addition, he expressed the hope that "in the foreseeable future Iran would be able to organize chess Olympiad as well."

After that the closing ceremony of the tournament, which, besides the guests, was attended by Deputy of Sport affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Manaf Hashemi, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of Iran Mohammed Reza Davarzani, the strongest Iranian chess player Magi and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Iran Sergey Burdulyak.

FIDE President handed out medals and winners’ cups to the champion and vice world champion and delivered a closing speech.

After the ceremony, Ilyumzhinov attended the reception hosted by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Iran at his residence.
