Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has made a working trip to Sudan

Continuing his trip to the African continent, FIDE President arrived in Sudan on January 23. Here he held a number of working meetings with leaders of various ministries of this country. This is the second visit of Ilyumzhinov to Khartoum in a short period.

The Minister for Youth and Sport Dr Abdel Karim Musa Abdel Karim shared with FIDE head his impressions about his recent stay in Russia at the Sochi festival of youth and students in the autumn of 2017. He announced his readiness to assist the Ministry to create a chess centre.

To this end, according to the Minister, it will be possible to allocate premises either in the national stadium under construction, where a whole sports cluster will be built, or at the existing youth centre to be reconstructed. The Minister familiarized Ilyumzhinov with the "Youth Economic Concept" project designed to attract investments in youth programmes.
The prospects of cooperation were discussed at a meeting with the Minister of Minerals Hashim Ali Mohamed Salem. He spoke about the main achievements of the Ministry and the ways of attracting foreign investments in the country.
At a meeting with FIDE President, Education Minister Abdelhafeez Elsadig invited specialists to discuss specific issues of launching the Chess in School project, including the National Research Centre for the School Programmes and Education. There was a discussion about the introduction of chess in the cultural and sports programmes currently existing in Sudanese schools.
The Minister was keenly interested in other countries experience on this subject, the age of children to start engaging in chess, the possibility of organizing seminars for teachers in all 18 provinces, and so on. They also discussed training of chess teachers with the help of Russian universities.
On January 24 in Khartoum, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met with the presidential aide, Ibrahim Hamid. FIDE President touched upon the results of his meetings with heads of ministries. The assistant to the head of Sudan spoke about the main directions and prospects of bilateral cooperation in agriculture, nature management, mining, banking and finance. Later, the meetings with the Minister of Investments and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology took place.
During his stay in the Sudanese capital, Ilyumzhinov also met with delegation and President of Sudan Chess Federation Ahmed Sir Al-Khatim and spoke about decisions of the African Chess Confederation Congress held in Tunisia.
