The head of FIDE congratulates Nona Gaprindashvili

On the 1st of May, the first FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Jordan where he performed ablution in the Jordan holy river, where Jesus Christ was baptized, due to the Orthodox Easter.

After that Ilyumzhinov arrived in Tbilisi, where the 75th jubilee of the five-time World Champion, 11-time Winner of World Chess Olympiads; first woman to receive the title of a male Grandmaster; first President of the National Olympic Committee of Independent Georgia Nona Gaprindashvili was widely celebrated on 3rd of May.

In honour of the hero of the day the honorary star was opened in Chess Palace in Tbilisi and after that the Rustaveli Theatre hosted a solemn ceremony. The head of FIDE spoke warmly and presented Nona Terentyevna with the elegant gift - a precious jewellery design "Caissa" made of gold, silver and encrusted with diamonds.
The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili, President of the European Chess Union Zurab Azmaiparashvili, head of the Georgian Chess Federation Gia Giorgadze and Nona Gaprindashvili family members.
Dinner and concert took place after the official part.
