Ilyumzhinov opens Charitable Foundation in Zurich

On June 3, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Zurich, where he participated in the charity party arranged by the Education for Future Foundation that was established to raise funds for the opening of the chess schools for children from poor families.

At the presentation in the Baur au Luc hotel, Ilyumzhinov and the former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik familiarized visitors with FIDE program "Chess in Schools", explaining the need to introduce chess in schools.

In turn, the founder of the Fund Anaida Schneider spoke about the main lines of action, which, inter alia, will include the opening of the chess clubs in different countries.
Next, a charity auction and a simul against Vladimir Kramnik took place. The honoured guests of the evening - the representatives of the banking and business circles - were able to test their skills in confrontation with the second chess player in the June rating list of FIDE.
Incidentally, while taking a walk in Zurich, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was photographed in front of the Savoy hotel-which holds fond memories for him. For example, exactly a quarter of a century ago it was where Ilyumzhinov bought from Garry Kasparov the diamond crown, Korloff (which the 13th world champion had won in the match against Anatoly Karpov). It was put into storage in a safety deposit box at UBS bank.
