FIDE President visits the Moscow Blitz Chess Championship

On 8 September, the head of FIDE visited the Moscow Chess Blitz Championship timed to the Moscow City Day. The championship was held in Techno Mall Gorbushkin Dvor. Twenty chess players fought for the title of Champion of Moscow and Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was among spectators.

Ilyumzhinov ironically remarked: "There were complaints that the weather was a little bit hot. You cannot please chess players: it was cold when they played in the rain and, now they do not like it hot. Well, let's hope that the next championships will be held in ideal conditions."

As a result of the intense five-hour struggle, the best results were shown by David Paravyan and Dmitry Gordievsky: both got 13.5 points out of 19. According to the tournament rules, an additional game called Armageddon was held after the end of the last round. As a result, David Paravyan, playing whites, won the main prize of the legendary championship.
The silver medalist was Dmitry Gordievsky. Daniel Dubov won bronze scoring 13 points. Boris Grachev and Vladimir Zakhartzov took the fourth and fifth places, respectively.
The champion among veterans was Alexander Reprintsev., Darya Voit proved to be the strongest one in the women's competition leaving behind Polina Shuvalova and Alexandra Kosteniuk.
The prizes were presented to the winners by the head of FIDE head Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, president of the "Constellation of Goodness" Charity Fund Olga Zhuravskaya, first vice-president of the MCF Nikita Kim and the leading specialist of the Moscomport teams centre Evgeny Yeletsky.
Note that the tournament’s winner David Paravyan, in addition to the winning of traditional Moscomsport Cup was awarded a special prize in memory of Oleg Zhuravsky by the "Constellation of Goodness" Fund this year.
