On June 28th, the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived on a working trip to the city of Cali (Colombia) - to participate in the opening ceremony of the 26th Pan-American Children's Chess Championship.
On opening the tournament, the head of FIDE thanked the organizers for their warm greetings and for their professionalism. Afterwards, he made the first moves on the boards of the boys and girls up to 8 years.
Then Kirsan Ilyumzhinov held a number of meetings with the heads of the National Chess Federations of the American continent, during which they discussed the most relevant issues for the development of chess, including a calendar of upcoming events and tournaments.
