Dear journalists, staff and veterans of mass media of the Republic of Kalmykia. I wholeheartedly congratulate you on the Kalmyk Press Day! Almost 100 years ago, on November 15, 1917, the first issue of the national newspaper ‘Oiratskie Izvestia’, edited by Nomto Ochirov was published. It was decided to create a national holiday in honour of this event, and I signed the corresponding decree in 2001.

Kalmyk media, during the years of its existence, goes back a long way connected with the history of the Kalmyk people. And that is why this holiday is for not only media professionals but also all residents of Kalmykia.
