The press conference of the Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin, who fought in a match for the world crown against Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, was held in Moscow yesterday. The journalists applauded the player who demonstrated a will to win during the fight in New York.
FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, who was one of the speakers, called the Karjakin’s performance very impressive and passed him the congratulations of the FIDE Presidential Council.
"Sergey Karjakin showed a worthy game. I should also note an unprecedented interest in the fight worldwide. According to preliminary data, the audience of the duel was one billion people. It is unsurpassed number," said Ilyumzhinov.
The head of FIDE added that the next match for the world chess crown will be held in an Asian country. The exact venue will be announced by the FIDE Presidential Council in the spring of 2017.
