On February 11, the Women’s World Chess Championship started at the hotel Espinas Palace in Tehran. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov inspected the tournament hall, along with the FIDE CEO Geoffrey Borg and chief arbiter Anastasia Sorokina.
The first move on behalf of the favorite rating player of the tournament – Chinese woman Ju Wenjun – made the President of Mobile Company of Iran (the sponsor of the Championship) Vahid Sadoughi in the presence of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the head of the Iranian Chess Federation Merhdad Pahlevanzade.
