Chess sections should be opened in at least 150 schools of the region. Classes in the new circles will begin in October 2017. According to Serdyukov, the multi-level system of competitions was designed to interest children.
On March 14, the head of the department of physical culture and sports of the Belgorod region Oleg Serdyukov spoke at a meeting of the regional government.
"The idea of implementation of the "Chess in schools" project arose after the visit of FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov. We look forward to close cooperation between the Education Department, local administrations and state universities, where the Centre for the Development of Intellectual Sports is already working," he explained.
