On March 24, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met with the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian National Guard troops, General of the Army Viktor Zolotov.
The parties signed an agreement on cooperation providing for the opening of chess departments in four military colleges and the Cadet Corps of the National Guard as well as the regular holdings of chess tournaments.
In addition, Ilyumzhinov presented Zolotov with the Golden Sign of FIDE for supporting the chess movement and expressed his condolences in connection with the recent terrorist attack in the Naur region of the Chechen Republic, which resulted in the death of six members of the National Guard.
