Head of FIDE visits Tunisia

On November 4, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in Tunisia, where he held a number of important negotiations. FIDE President met with the Minister of Youth and Sports Mrs Majdouline Cherni. Head of FIDE told about the main activities of the international chess federation and the plans for the future. The parties discussed issues of possible bilateral cooperation including attracting investments in sports tourism in this Mediterranean country.

As you know, the World Championship among schoolchildren will be held there in 2019. The Tunisian party is ready to consider the possibility of organizing other official FIDE competitions. It also expressed interest in training national chess specialists in Russian universities. The President of the Tunisian Football Federation Tahar Battikh, Vice President Chedly Rahmani, well-known journalist, the Grand Master Slim Bouaziz and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Tunisia Sergey Nikolaev took part in the discussion of the joint business plan.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited a local Orthodox church on November 4, because of the celebration of the Day of Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
