FIDE President holds meetings in Seoul and Songdo

On November 22, head of FIDE continued his business trip. He visited the Russian Embassy in Seoul and met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Alexander Timonin. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov spoke of his business meetings and asked the head of the Russian mission for assistance in opening the chess club at the embassy and organizing a chess tournament among representatives of the diplomatic corps. The topic of providing scholarships for training young people in Russian universities was also brought up. Incidentally, this joint photo was taken against the backdrop of the picture of the most famous Russian warship -- the cruiser Varyag.

On the same day, FIDE President met with staff of the Woori Card bank. During the meeting, Ilyumzhinov spoke about the main aspects of FIDE activities, in particular, the Chess in Schools programme and the positive examples of other countries that have already implemented it. He further called on the bank's management to support the promising project.
The possible support of chess projects was also discussed during meeting in the office of Posco Daewoo company, which is located in architecturally significant, the highest office building of a new suburb of Seoul -- Songdo known as the city of the future. Songdo is designed to give accommodation to 85 thousand people. However, a third of "smart houses" are still not occupied. It is assumed that diesel and petrol vehicles will soon be banned there.
