FIDE President attends the Andorra chess tournament

On November 18, on his way to Andorra, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited ​​the capital of Catalonia -Barcelona. Head of FIDE took a walk along the picturesque streets of Barcelona. He visited Plaza Catalunya, which is called the Heart of the City and walked along La Rambla Boulevard. There, he met his old friend, the honorary consul of Armenia in Andorra Araik Baghdasaryan.

On the same day, head of FIDE joined the closing ceremony of the Fifth European Small Nations Team Championship held in the capital of Andorra - La Vella. The tournament was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Andorra Chess Federation.

The tournament gathered players from Andorra, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Jersey, Guernsey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and San Marino. The winner, for the third time in a row, was the Faroe Islands team. The Andorran national team won bronze medals.
At the end of the tournament, a gala dinner was held, where all participants and honorary guests from FIDE, ECU and representatives of local authorities gathered. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulated the Andorran Chess Federation on its jubilee and presented a souvenir -- the silver Noah's Ark.
