FIDE President visits the closing ceremony of the International Chess Festival

On February 4, a solemn closing ceremony of the 14th Cup of the RSSU -- Moscow Open 2018 was held at the Russian State Social University (RSSU). Nearly 2000 athletes from 30 countries competed for the prizes.

In order to congratulate and award the prize winners organizers and honorary guests rose to stage: FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, RSSU rector, National Student Chess League President Natalia Pochinok, Moscow Chess Federation President Vladimir Palikhata and first deputy general director of the sports and entertainment activities of Moscow Alexander Buzdakov. They addressed the participants with welcoming speeches.

Kirsan Nikolaevich said words of gratitude to RSSU management for hosting the festival: "I am glad that Moscow holds a world-class chess festival and chess players from all over the world gather here for fourteenth time. Thank you for developing chess," FIDE President said referring to festival organizers.
FIDE President thanked Vladimir Palikhata for his contribution to the event and wished everyone success and new victories.
After the official part, the ceremony of awarding the festival prize winners was held. They were awarded specially designed for this event cups, medals and diplomas. It should be noted that within the framework of the festival various tournaments took place among children, veterans, as well as competitions for blind and visually impaired players.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov warmly greeted the veterans: a participant in the Victory Day parade, 92 years old veteran Viktor Ivanovich Chuiko and Vyacheslav Vasilyevich Gavrilov. Both flew to Moscow from Sakhalin to take part in the chess festival.
