On March 9, the business visit of FIDE President to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam continued. As a part of the visit, Ilyumzhinov met with the management of Soviko holding company in Ho Chi Minh City. This holding owns HDBank and the low-cost carrier Vietjet Air. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited the holding’s head office, where he met with the President and Managing Director of Vietjet Nguyen Thanh Hung and with the board deputy chairman of HDBank Ms Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao.HDBank is the main sponsor of the annual chess tournament, which is held for the 8th time this year. FIDE President thanked his interlocutors for the active support of chess. The parties discussed in detail promising forms of cooperation.
It is worth noting that, according to the Forbes, Ms Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao with a fortune of $ 3.9 billion is on the list of the world’s wealthiest females, and is among the top 10 of the wealthiest women of Asia. This year, 274 players from 21 countries will participate in the HDBank Open tournament. It is interesting to note that Ms Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Mr Nguyen Thanh Hung met in Russia.
Incidentally, a leading Vietnamese newspaper Saigon Giai Fong (Liberated Saigon) on the first page informed the readers about the meeting of FIDE President with Politburo member, the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nyan.
