On 18 April, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov took part in the opening ceremony of the fifth chess super tournament Shamkir Chess 2018. The head of FIDE warmly greeted the participants and guests of the event. Local craftsmen presented Ilyumzhinov with a memorable gift.All matches of the super tournament are broadcast online and commented by international grandmasters and coaches. The tournament is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation. The tournament, gathering the world's strongest grandmasters, will be held from 18 to 28 April.
Previously, Magnus Carlsen and Shahriyar Mammadyarov twice became winners of Shamkir Chess.
