As you know, Stanislav Pozdnyakov was elected the new president of the Russian Olympic Committee ROC. Elections were held in the framework of the Olympic meeting in Moscow on 29 May. Besides 44-year-old Pozdnyakov, the four-time Olympic swimming champion, honorary member of the International Olympic Committee 46-year-old Alexander Popov claimed this post. The meeting was attended by 272 delegates, of whom 214 voted for Pozdnyakov, 56 for Popov.
On 1 June, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met with Stanislav Pozdnyakov. FIDE President once again congratulated the famous Russian sportsman, the fourfold Olympic champion in fencing on a convincing victory in the elections.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The conversation between the two presidents was constructive and businesslike.
