On 17 October, an explosion and shooting took place at the Kerch Polytechnic College. According to various sources, up to 19 people died and more than 50 injured are in hospitals.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov expressed deep condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and wished the victims a speedy recovery:
“A terrible tragedy occurred in Kerch today. Please accept my deep condolences over the tragedy at the Polytechnic College. It is a big disaster. Great grief has come to many families who have lost their children, relatives and friends. It is terrible that this tragedy involved young people - the future of our country.
