Kirsan Ilyumzhinov expresses his condolences on the death of Dato Tan Chin Nam

On 21 October, the four-time winner of the Melbourne Cup, an honorary member of FIDE, a Malaysian businessman and philanthropist Dato Tan Chin Nam passed away. He died at the age of 93. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov sent a letter of condolences to the Malaysian Chess Federation. The letter reads as follows:
I wish to express my most sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues on the unfortunate passing away of the FIDE Honorary member and my big friend Mr. Dato Tan Chin Nam.

He was among the creators of the famous 'Big Dragon Project' which launched the chess burst in China, and today we all can see the outstanding results of this undertaking as China gradually turns into a chess superpower. His brightest chess event in Malaysia - the Malaysian Chess Festival - is another successful brainchild. His contribution to the chess movement in Asia was extensive. I had the greatest respect for him.

Everything he did he was doing it with great talent and passion and no surprise that all his undertakings were big success no matter to which domain they belong: chess, construction or horse-race.
He will always remain in our hearts. He is a big loss to the sports world.
We join his family in mourning.
