Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: Football must be free from interference of monopolies and regional budgets

The sixth president of FIDE, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, pointed out errors in the management system of domestic football.

Recall that the RFU presidential elections will be held on 22 February. The only candidate is Alexander Dyukov, the director general of Gazprom Neft.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov announced his readiness to participate the RFU presidential elections in 1998.

After 17 years, he also thought about participating in the FIFA presidential elections.

“I'm not interested in this now,” says Ilyumzhinov. -Our football needs state support. The president has to declare that football must be free from interference of monopolies and regional budgets. By using his feet, a footballer can earn more than dozens of teachers and doctors. How can you explain it to them? He hangs around the football field for 90 minutes and gets paid for this in the amount of budget of some cities and regions.
“When corporations started to invest in football clubs, it was the end of football,” the former head of FIDE said. –I insist that only local players should play at the local teams, and local sponsors only should finance these teams. When I was the president of Uralan, I insisted on spending not budget money but sponsors’ only. That was when they beat Dynamo, Spartak and CSKA. But when corporations started to invest in football clubs, it became difficult for a small Kalmykia with a population of 300 thousand to compete, we were in unequal conditions.
