Kirsan Ilyumzhinov attends the EuroPark Open Chess Junior Tournament in Moscow

Moscow EuroPark shopping centre turned into a field of intellectual battle for chess players from 5 to 16 years on 2 March. The opening of the rapid chess junior tournament “EuroPark Open Chess Tournament” took place there.

The children were happy to take part in the tournament: everyone received intellectual gifts and was able to take a photo with the chess heroes who seemed to have come off the chessboard.

Prize winners of the tournament received symbols of a new generation of online chess: smartphones, tablets and smart watches.

The sixth FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov came to congratulate the children. He devoted 23 years to the development of world chess. The organizer of the tournament was chess blogger Christina Wojciechowska, known in the blogosphere as @hodikonem (movetheknight). The main sponsor of the tournament was EuroPark shopping centre.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov thanked the tournament organizers for the invitation and commented on his social network’s page: “I am touched by the kids playing chess every time I see them! Such sincere and real emotions!  When they win, they jump, smile and hold head high! When they lose, they are upset and go back to dad or mom with heads bowed. The list of participants was very strong. I really liked it!"
