On 24 April, in Tehran, the sixth FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met with an Iranian entrepreneur residing in Oman Mehdi Burhuni. The parties discussed a number of business projects: the supply of meat from Russia and Mongolia to Iran and the supply of Iranian products to Russia.
Following the meeting, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said: “I met with a friend, an Iranian entrepreneur residing in Oman, Mehdi Burhuni. We discussed a number of business projects with him, and also recalled our project of the Eurasia ship canal (the Manych ship canal), started back in 2000, in which $ 3 million of private money was invested.
This large-scale project is of interest to Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Iran.
The goal of the project is to connect the Caspian Sea with the Azov Sea. It is like restoration of the Great Silk Road.
This transport corridor is very important for Russia and, in particular, for Kalmykia. Within the framework of the Eurasia project, construction of an international seaport is planned in the territory of the Republic of Kalmykia. This will lead to increase of investments into Kalmykia and an increase in jobs."
