Europe's largest Maitreya Buddha statue opens in Lagan

On 22 September, the opening of the largest Maitreya Buddha statue of in Europe took place in the city of Lagan in Kalmykia. The consecration ritual was led by the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche and Yeshe Loda Rinpoche. The opening was attended by more than 2 thousand people. 

A statue 13.5 meters high and weighing about 30 tons is installed at the Lagan Dargyeling Khurul monastery complex. Its construction has been carried out since 2011 with donations from believers.
According to the Buddhist teacher Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Maitreya Buddha will become the fifth founder of the Buddhist Dharma that will descend into our world and perform twelve deeds.

 

“In the future, wars will rage in the world, and many will suffer; everywhere on Earth hunger will break out killing many human lives. The whole world will be covered by diseases from which many will not be healed. In these conditions, the more statues of Maitreya Buddha will be built, the more successfully we will be able to reduce suffering and completely overcome them,” he said.
