According to the results of voting, the Alley of Russian Glory is replenished on 1 June every year.
The purpose of the educational expedition “Name of Russia” is to study the history of Russia, its spiritual and material experience, and to foster a sense of patriotism among children and youth. The 2019 winners are as follows:
Stakhanov Alexey Grigoryevich, Soviet miner, innovator of the coal industry, founder of the Stakhanov movement, Hero of Socialist Labour.
Ilyumzhinov Kirsan Nikolaevich, statesman and public figure, entrepreneur, philanthropist, diplomat, peacemaker. President of the International Chess Federation, President of the International Association of Intellectual Games.
Maltsev Terenty Semenovich, breeder and innovator of agriculture of the USSR. Twice Hero of Socialist Labour. Laureate of the Stalin Prize.
Kalashnikov Mikhail Timofeevich, Russian and Soviet designer of small arms. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Lieutenant General. Twice Hero of Socialist Labour.
Kurchatov Igor Vasilyevich, Russian and Soviet physicist, father of the Soviet atomic bomb. Thrice Hero of Socialist Labour.
Shostakovich Dmitry Dmitrievich, Russian and Soviet composer, pianist, teacher, musical and public figure. Hero of Socialist Labour. People's Artist of the USSR.
The name of the winner will be immortalized in the Alley of Russian Glory of Smena Centre by establishing a bust of the hero. Its grand opening will take place on June 1, 2020.
Editors’ note. Smena Exhibition Centre is a year-round children's educational centre located on the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar region. It was opened on June 1, 1985. It is one of the four flagships for children’s recreation in Russia along with the Artek centre in Crimea, the Orlenok in Tuapse and the Okean in Vladivostok.
