Ilyumzhinov congratulates Buddhists on the birthday of Buddha Shakyamuni

On 5 June, Buddhists around the world celebrate the birthday of Buddha Shakyamuni. This is one of the main holidays in the Buddhist calendar, which falls on the 15th lunar day of the holy month of Yрс Сар.

Buddhists will celebrate the birth (563 BC), enlightenment and the parinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. As you know, all these events occurred on the same day, with a difference between the first and last of 80 years.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulated the Buddhists, his fellow countrymen, on this great holiday:
“I congratulate fellow countrymen and all Buddhists on the great holiday, the birthday of Shakyamuni Buddha, enlightenment and parinirvana! On the birthday of our great Teacher, we rejoice in his wonderful deeds, try to follow his example and do good deeds.

Editors’ note. The main celebrations will be held in Elista’s the central Khurul “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni”. This is the biggest temple in Europe, with the largest Buddha statue and the only sculpture in the world of 17 pandits of the ancient Indian University of Nalanda. Built in 2005 with the blessing of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the personal expense of first president of Kalmykia, sixth president of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and on public donations, the Khurul became a hallmark of Elista.
