Kirsan Ilyumzhinov to become an Honorary Guest of the Turgenev Chess Tournament

On July 1, first President of Kalmykia, sixth President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov received an invitation letter to become the Honorary Guest of the first Turgenev Chess Tournament:

"Dear Kirsan Nikolaevich! I am addressing you, the sixth president of the International Chess Federation, who has made a huge contribution to the development of chess and reformatted the entire chess world.
On July 18, the Spasskoye Lutovinovo museum-reserve “IvanTurgenev “will host the first Turgenev chess tournament. It is held to promote the talent of Ivan Turgenev as a chess grandmaster. After all, it is known that ‘Turgenev was the best w

riter among chess players and the best chess player among writers.’

 The programme of the tournament includes chess matches, thematic excursions and lectures, as well as a chess "battle" with Turgenev and an analysis of the games played by the great writer. Also, a simultaneous game session is planned. It will be held by one of the country's leading grandmasters (negotiations are underway).

The co-organizers of the Turgenev Chess Tournament are the public organization "Chess Federation of the Orel Region" and the Orel Chess and Checkers Sports School. About 50 chess players from Orel, Kursk, Bryansk and Tula have already agreed to participate in the tournament. Age of participants varies from nine to 70 years.
