On July 1, first President of Kalmykia, sixth President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov received an invitation letter to become the Honorary Guest of the first Turgenev Chess Tournament:riter among chess players and the best chess player among writers.’
The programme of the tournament includes chess matches, thematic excursions and lectures, as well as a chess "battle" with Turgenev and an analysis of the games played by the great writer. Also, a simultaneous game session is planned. It will be held by one of the country's leading grandmasters (negotiations are underway).
The co-organizers of the Turgenev Chess Tournament are the public organization "Chess Federation of the Orel Region" and the Orel Chess and Checkers Sports School. About 50 chess players from Orel, Kursk, Bryansk and Tula have already agreed to participate in the tournament. Age of participants varies from nine to 70 years.
