Kirsan Ilyumzhinov meets with Pakistani Ambassador and businesspersons

On August 1, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met with Pakistani businesspersons and congratulated them on the Eid al-Adha holiday. During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of promising business projects.

Ilyumzhinov also congratulated Mr Shafqat Ali Khan on his appointment as the head of the chief diplomatic envoy of Pakistan to Russia. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov highly appreciated the interview of Mr Shavkat Ali Khan given to Politexpert, in which he spoke about the removal of the main barrier in relations with Russia.

In the interview, he stressed that Pakistan could not invest in Russia because of the outstanding debt to the USSR. At the sixth meeting of the Russian-Pakistani intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, which took place in December 2019 in Islamabad, this legal issue was finally resolved.

“Pakistan repaid to Russia the debt of the former USSR. This great achievement opens up huge prospects for cooperation between our countries. Now we hope that the barrier has disappeared and new opportunities will open up for us,” the ambassador said. In addition to trade relations, Pakistan intends to resume students exchange with Russian universities. This will help to strengthen ties with Russia.
