On the night of December 25-26, sad news came: Klara Shagenovna Kasparova (1937 - 2020) died.
Sixth FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov expressed his condolences to the 13th World Champion Garry Kasparov and all the relatives of the deceased.
“Klara Shagenovna, whom I knew very well and deeply respected, passed away. This is a huge tragedy. I offer my most sincere condolences to Garry Kimovich Kasparov and all the relatives and friends of the deceased.
I will never forget the times when I visited the welcoming and hospitable house of Klara Shagenovna. I still remember her kindness and our long conversations while enjoying amazing dumplings that Klara Shagenovna cooked. We met more than once - and although much happened in life - she was a uniquely kind and intelligent person, selflessly loving her son.
The editor’s note: Klara (Aida) Shagenovna Kasparova was an engineer, a specialist in automation and telemechanic, a scientific secretary at a research institute. In 1981 (when Harry was 18), she left her job to devote herself entirely to her son's career. She became Harry's main confidant, accompanying him everywhere; helped him to become the world champion and keep this title for 15 years. Harry lost his father when he was seven years old, after which Klara Shagenovna became for him not only a mother, but also a teacher, friend and confidant.
