The 14th Dalai Lama vaccinated against coronavirus

On March 6, the 14th Dalai Lama was vaccinated against coronavirus in the Indian city of Dharamsala. It was not specified what vaccine was used. India has approved the use of two vaccines: the Indian version of the Oxford vaccine Covishield, and Covaxin, developed by the Indian company Bharat Biotech.

His Holiness said that he decided to be vaccinated on the advice of friends, and recommended that everyone else be vaccinated. “According to my trusted friends, including a doctor, this vaccination would prevent serious problems. Therefore, you should also get vaccinated” the Dalai Lama said in a video message.
His Holiness received the vaccine at the Zonal State Hospital in Dharamsala and remained under medical supervision for about half an hour after that.

“You should also be vaccinated for your own benefit. This is very important.” the Dalai Lama said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
India ranks second in the world in the number of cases of coronavirus (more than 11.1 million people). Since March, the country has begun the second wave of vaccination against COVID-19: the vaccine was approved for people over 60 years old. The third stage of testing of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine is currently underway in India.
