The adoption of this fateful document allowed Russia (as well as other union republics) to advance along the path of independence, genuine democracy, and egalitarianism.
The June 12 holiday will be celebrated by people of different generations and nationalities. A prosperous, independent Russia is our dream and our shared future. In the name of this we live and work, keep the traditions and behests of our ancestors. I am sure, we will achieve success.
We are proud of the glorious history of our Fatherland, its great cultural and spiritual heritage. We love Russia and will do everything in our power for the sake of its prosperity. I wish all our people health, luck, peace and prosperity!

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: A prosperous and independent Russia is our dream and shared future
Tomorrow, June 12, our country will celebrate a big holiday, the Day of the Russia’s sovereign statehood’s revival. This holiday unites all of us because of sincere and selfless love for the Motherland.
I often remember how I (a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Russia) created the new politics faction Smena a quarter of a century ago. Its members were Alexander Pochinok, Boris Nemtsov, Alexander Lyubimov, Ilya Konstantinov, Alexander Politkovsky and other wonderful, freedom-loving politicians and journalists.
It was our faction that initiated the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the RSFSR, which was adopted on June 12, 1990, amid a difficult political struggle (with a margin of only four votes).
