Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrives in Zanzibar and visits the Freddie Mercury Museum

On September 16, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in Tanzania. As we know, Zanzibar is the birthplace of the legendary Freddie Mercury, so it is not surprising that before all the official events, the first President of Kalmykia, sixth FIDE President visited the house-museum of the great musician.

The Freddie Mercury House Museum is in Stone Town. It was here that the world-famous vocalist of the rock group Queen was born and lived for the first eight years of his life.
A museum dedicated to the legendary vocalist of the Queen was opened in the entrance of his house. This event took place on November 24, 2019, on the 28th anniversary of the talented performer’s death.
The museum officially cooperates with the Queen Productions Ltd, which manages the copyrights and heritage of the Queen group. It provided the museum with exclusive pictures of Freddie Mercury.
The founders of the institution are two friends - Javed Jafferji and Andrea Boero, who decided to pay tribute to the rock group Queen by creating a house-museum of the Zanzibar vocalist who touched the hearts of millions of people around the world. It took the friends 15 years to make the dream come true.

Editor’s note: Zanzibar is an archipelago of 75 islands in the Indian Ocean, stretching along the eastern coast of Africa opposite modern Tanzania. In 1964, the authorities of Zanzibar and Tanganyika signed an agreement on the creation of a single state - Tanzania (the name is a combination of the words "Tanganyika" and "Zanzibar").
The Zanzibar Islands are semi-autonomous within Tanzania with the administrative centre in Zanzibar City. Since 2005, Zanzibar has its own flag, parliament, and president. An excellent place to stay.
