The first rituals of life extension will take place in the Central Khurul of Kalmykia next weekend. Due to the unfavourable situation regarding Covid-19, the rituals will be held online.
According to tradition, before the beginning of the celebration of the Kalmyk New Year Zul, the monks perform the rituals "Nasan utdulun" (prolongation of the years). Every year in the Central Khurul, life extension rituals pass through three deities of longevity: Amitayus, Ushnishavijaya and White Tara.
Before one begins the rituals, the monks recommend generating in oneself the correct, good motivation. Also, monks urge to pray not only for themselves during the rituals, but also for all living beings.
As the senior administrator of the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni Yonten-gelong noted, we as followers of the Buddha's teachings understand the value of the precious human birth and should try to use our lives to benefit all sentient beings and ultimately achieve enlightenment.
“As for the online prayer services, personal presence in the khurul is not so important. Wherever in the world you are at this moment, if you pray sincerely, then the benefits of this ritual will certainly be the same as if you were personally present in the prayer hall,” he added.
A total of eight rituals are planned to be held on weekends until December 29. Zul is celebrated on December 29. These rituals and prayers are especially significant for those who were born in the year of the Tiger (the coming year) and in the year of the Monkey - the opposite of the year of the Tiger. The rituals will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 12:00. Please send the names for the prayer service to This email address is being protected from spambots.
