The Dalai Lama shares advice on how to challenge negative emotions

“Our negative emotions are so powerful that constant effort is needed to challenge that. Only by trying can we really change ourselves. Friends ask me what is the quickest, easiest and most effective way to do it.

Destructive emotions have two causes: self-centeredness and the believing reality is as it seems to us. The antidote is altruism and realizing that nothing exists as it appears.
Happiness is not dependent on drug or alcohol or money, but seed way of thinking. This is the ultimate source of happiness, joyfulness. Everyone wants happiness and does not want suffering.

Individual people’s survival depends on the community. One individual, however powerful, just remains one individual. He cannot survive. For inner peace, you need to cultivate altruism, love and compassion. And eliminate ignorance, selfishness and greed."
