From May 24 to May 30, the Russian chess championship among boys and girls under nine years old was held in Kostroma. Championship was held according to the Swiss system in 11 rounds. Roman Shogdzhiev (Moscow) became the champion of Russia among boys with 10 points out of 11 possible. Congratulations to the young champion were conveyed by the first President of Kalmykia, sixth President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov:
“From the bottom of my heart I congratulate my young fellow compatriot Roma Shogdzhiev on a big victory in an important competition! Most recently, in March, we all rejoiced when seven-year-old Roman became the champion of Moscow and now the boy has become the champion of Russia! I am sure that Roman is a rising star in the chess sky of our country.
Congratulations on the victory to Roma's parents and coach! I am proud that such talented children grow up in my native Kalmykia! Roman, I wish you to become a great champion!
